On-Country Workshop

29 May 2026

Join Nunukul Yuggera for a morning of cultural and spiritual connection at Musgrave Park, a place of deep significance for First Nations peoples in Meanjin. The morning will begin with a welcome by the sacred fire, where Traditional Owners will guide participants through a smoking ceremony, led with a message stick, setting the intention for the day’s workshop.

Participants will then be guided by the Nunukul Yuggera team through a series of immersive cultural activities, including painting, bush food and medicine exploration, tribal dance, and boomerang throwing. Working in teams, you will move through each activity, fostering connection with peers while engaging in the healing powers of culture.

Following the morning’s activities, the group will return to the InterContinental for a buffet lunch, before concluding the afternoon with a yarn led by Aunty Kaylene. Drawing on her experience volunteering with incarcerated women, Aunty Kaylene will share how cultural connection, storytelling, and artistic performance are used as pathways to healing, resilience, and reconnection. Her yarn will reflect on the morning themes of cultural grounding, collective strength, and wellbeing, highlighting how culturally led practices support healing from trauma and strengthen identity, community, and belonging.
